If you think this is about you, it probably isn’t.

“Does the word ‘duh’ mean anything to you?”

No, really.  When someone doesn’t respond to your emails, disconnects from you on social networking sites, and never, ever initiates conversations with you…

they don’t want to talk to you.

If you know you behaved reprehensibly towards this person for an extended period of time, with a handful of truly inexcusable incidents…

you know why they don’t want to talk to you.

And you don’t need to be clairvoyant, or particularly intelligent, or even possessed of a scintilla of integrity to figure that out.  Which is good, because that last one might’ve been a stumbling block.

And you certainly don’t need an explanation that you certainly don’t deserve.

I can think of two separate people you may be referring to. Is that bad?

Asking for an explanation? It’s either tremendous stupidity or the hope that asking for an explanation will make you uncomfortable and force you to shift your behavior.

Not to play devil’s advocate, but it is possible that the individual in question is sufficiently clue-free as to be unaware of the full extent of his/her transgressions? It could be that this person is seeking an explanation in an effort to figure out where they screwed up so they don’t keep making the same mistakes with others. Of course, it could be that I’m just a sucker for the ‘personal growth’ angle.

  5. Alias Faux: As always, an appropriate visual aid. 🙂

Beach Bum: Well, it’s only bad insofar as it speaks to my tendency to make unfortunate social choices from time to time. *rueful grin*

Lisa: I suspect the motivation is the latter. Fortunately, I’m beyond feeling guilty or indebted at this point.

Gabrielle: In most other situations, I’d be inclined to extend the same benefit of the doubt – but I’ve heard this particular version of this song a few too many times before.

  6. Did he poke you incessantly on facebook? I’ve deleted people for far less.

  7. HIN: No, not quite. But incessant poking is SO annoying.
